BEACH CLEAN-UP
We started our initiative on plastic pollution when we attended Litter @ Sea
Skype Lesson, helping spread the word and taking action to protect the oceans facilitated
by The Skype Plastic Cleanup Bridgage.
We are engulfed with the issues of environment and this initiative is
our concern for environmental sustainability packaged in artistic expression
using recycled materials as media for visual expression and participating in beach cleanups.
We are taking Climate action (SDG 13) towards protecting and preserving the underwater endangered species (SDG 14. Life below the water) and to restore the world’s oceans and aquatic resources.
The deadly effect of plastic to marine lives include the following:
i.
Every year about eight million tonnes of plastic enters
our oceans. Some pieces float on the surface of the sea, preventing sunlight
from reaching the plankton and algae below. If these plants die, so will the
sea creatures that eat them.
ii.
Plastic release harmful chemicals as they break down in
the water. These can be absorbed by animals and by humans.
iii.
Many sea creatures, such as turtles and whales, swallow
plastic bags because they mistake them for food.
Plastics are non-biodegrade materials and recycle idea
has given many options to help solve plastic problem in our local communities.
And these action will in no small amount help to stop the planet filling up
with plastics. The initiative captured the hearts of the children who will in
turn get their parents involved in our effort to save the planet by reducing
the use of plastic and plastic pollution. We are causing revival in education
space to save our planet.
